It is possible to have your membership grading reviewed by making an
application to upgrade.
Upgrade applications are usually made by members who since
joining the Institute have gained qualifications or experience
that meet the eligibility criteria for
a higher grade of membership.

To make an application to upgrade to Associate or Full Member:
1. Complete an
application form and include details of any qualifications
or experience since your original application. This is an Adobe
PDF file.
2. Enclose copies of any relevant certificates.
3. Include the upgrade fee of £25. This is a processing fee
which will be returned to you if your application is
unsuccessful.
Information Considered When Reviewing a
Membership Upgrade
The Membership Committee will take into
consideration evidence of:
Examination Success
Qualifications which are included in the criteria of a higher
grade
Additional Experience
Significant new experience
Promotion or new appointment – please enclose a copy of your job
description and your company’s organisation chart
Continuing Professional Development
Continuing professional development and activity through
participation in training courses, seminars, workshops etc.
Non-Work Activities
Involvement with IIRSM development
Publication of relevant written material
Honorary appointments or voluntary work in Occupational Health
and Safety Groups or similar organisations
Campaign research
Of these four factors, the first,
Examination Success will stand on its own in a review
application.
For other applications to be considered at
least two of the other three factors are required plus a
supporting reference.

Upgrades to Fellow -
Fellowship Application Form
The level of Fellow can be
applied for after completing five consecutive year's membership as a paid up
Full Member
(MIIRSM) and is dependent on a Fellowship petition being
accepted by the Board of Governors.
Guidelines for completing the Fellowship Application Form
- Please be sure to read the guidelines for completing the
Fellowship Application Form.To apply for
Fellowship: 1.
Complete the
Fellowship Application
form remembering to sign the declaration on the back page.
Please note that we will not accept Fellowship Petitions without a
completed Fellowship Application Form.
2.
Ensure you enclose all supporting evidence as
defined
in the Guidelines to Completing the Fellowship Petition.
3.
Include the Fellow upgrade fee of £35. This is a processing fee
which will be returned to you if your application is
unsuccessful.
